The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Andrew House, took part in an interview with MCV site in which he spoke about the price of the PS3 (see Sony drop the price of the PS3 when the time comes to PS3gen) and the future of the PSP Go

Go PSP: PSP for rich gogo?
"I'm expensive? Because I is worth it!"
Needless to cherche midi to fourteen hours, if the new PSP is expensive, simply because of the syndrome of the top model from Loreal: it is' because it is worth it. "
When you introduce a new piece of hardware you have the opportunity to say there is a certain premium that is associated with it, and we took that into account.
Basically, the doctor said Mr. House, during the sale of a new model, there is added value to consider. As said, it must be understood only as "this is all new," it must pay a high price! At least the message is clear and Article Go PSP: SONY does not make it to consumers pigeons?, We come to mind.

rou rou rou rou ... ... rou rou ...
Then the Prince Andrew goes on to explain more precisely that the introductory price is calculated based on various parameters
Andrew House:
As with all hardware launches you look at the business model, the cost structure, and the necessarily level of profitability, and you use that to set the wholesale price. Much as we do with any other hardware. Here he explains that as with all products offered for sale, the company looks at the business model, the structural costs and the level of profitability necessary to determine the best selling price possible. Certainly, certainly, certainly ... We must therefore believe that Sony has, therefore, high costs as go between the PSP and PS3, the Japanese company holds an absolute monopoly of the most expensive consoles in the market.

The PSP does not go more ... Finally, if the bluetooth and the price!
Note that if you think that selling cheaper can sell more, note that Sony's vision is slightly different and here is what he said about the price of the PS3, dear Andrew:
People buy more if it's cheaper? Of course. But on the other hand, there is an inherent marketing challenge. In Europe, I think people see the value of the machine, with the Blu-Ray and online services and take all that into consideration instead of just focusing on price. But we will get the price and address the topic when the time comes.
As you can see, we are, the European consumers who are brave to buy at high prices. From the PS3 to the PSP go ... thinking does not change.

Prince Andrew Dr. House
"I'm fine, everything is fine, I see no reason why it would not"
And the crisis? The journalist asked if the MCV is not the ideal time to apply lower prices.
Clearly the industry as a whole has seen some impact from the recession. I think everybody would agree we've held up tremendously well in the circumstances. On balance, we are still a good value for money entertainment form, especially in terms of dollars per hour spent.
As you read it expresses that despite the obvious crisis, Sony has managed. It states, that ultimately Sony remains a sure financial value and more precisely in terms of dollars per hour for the purchase of its products in the world.
And finally, Andrew House is optimistic and believes that there will be a reversal of situation this year:
I am something of an optimist, I think there will be a turnaround within this calendar year.
In short, to summarize, we have just learned that we are consumers willing to pay a high price for a novelty and that Sony is doing well.
However, this speech is not very consistent with the current market and if the PSP-3000 has its price fall by 20 euros (see PSP-3000: a big price drop summer!) It is not fair to nice. In addition to this decrease, the PSP seems to go even more expensive and this high price should not take long. Whatever? Sony with anything is possible ... even the chickens with teeth.
